Basement insulation in Hemet CA - water handled first, then a warmer room
Cold floors over the basement, or damp spots on its walls? We sort out the water first, then insulate so the space stays comfortable.

What does basement insulation do for a Hemet house?
Basement insulation in Hemet means putting a layer of insulation on the basement walls or across its ceiling, which keeps the basement warmer when it's cold out and often makes the floor above it warmer too.
Most people call us because the room over the basement has cold floors, or because they want to use the space and it feels damp and chilly. The price turns on how big the basement is, whether we insulate the walls or the ceiling, which material fits, and most of all whether the walls ever get wet, because any water work comes before insulation and goes into the plan. The schedule turns on that same water question and on a permit if the job calls for one, and the written estimate I give you lays out each step in order with your choices, so you see your own figure before anything starts. If what's under your floor is really a crawl space, that's a different job, and we cover it under crawl space insulation.
How we handle basement insulation, one step at a time
With a basement, water is the first thing I look at, the way a cook checks the walk-in before planning the night, because insulation set against a damp wall just holds the damp there. If the walls get wet, that gets handled before we put any insulation against them. Once they're dry, we seal the gaps where the house framing sits on the foundation and around pipes coming through, since a draft through those gaps works against whatever insulation goes in. Then our crew installs the insulation on the walls or the ceiling, whichever we agreed on, trims it neatly around pipes and wiring, covers it where it needs covering and cleans up before we leave.
On bare concrete walls I usually reach for closed-cell foam insulation, the dense kind that blocks moisture, because it seals air and insulates in one pass. Open-cell foam insulation is lighter and costs less, so it can make sense up in a dry basement ceiling between the joists, away from the concrete. Foam costs more than batts or loose fill, and I'll tell you plainly when that extra cost earns its keep in your basement and when it doesn't.
Basement insulation, permits and damp walls in Hemet
In Hemet, the city's Building & Safety Division issues permits and inspects construction work, and new permit applications now go through the city's online portal. I don't assume a basement job is permit-free, so we check with the city before we start, and when a job calls for a permit we take care of it before the work begins and plan around the inspection. If you've got a code question about your own basement, the division answers those too, and you're welcome to call them yourself.
Basements aren't common around here, so the ones we see tend to be partial basements, cellars under older houses and lower levels built into a slope. The damp we find usually traces back to sprinklers or a downspout dumping water along the foundation, so I walk the outside of the house before I go down the stairs. We see the same setups on jobs in Valle Vista and East Hemet.
How basement insulation works with us
Call us or send the form
Call (951) 484-2035 or fill out the form, and we'll set a time for me to come see the basement. We pick up any day of the week from 7 AM to 10 PM.
I come out and look
I come out myself, check the walls and floor for water, look over the ceiling and take photos as I go. Then I walk you through what I found, so you're looking at your own basement instead of taking my word for it.
Read your written estimate
The estimate lists the steps in order, anything that has to be fixed first, like water on the walls, and your choices in plain words. You can weigh walls against ceiling, or one foam against another, before you decide anything.
Work day, cleanup and walkthrough
Our crew preps the house, protecting the floors and the path down to the basement, does the job the way the estimate laid it out and cleans up. Then I go over the finished work with you.

Get your basement walls checked for water and insulation
Send the form and we'll reply within one business day to set a time. I come out myself, take photos and walk you through what's going on, and the estimate is free at your property with no obligation to go ahead.
Questions before you insulate a basement
Should I insulate my basement walls or the ceiling?
Usually the walls. Insulating basement walls takes less material than insulating the ceiling, and the walls are easier to seal against heat loss and air leaks because wiring, plumbing and ductwork run through most basement ceilings. The ceiling can still make sense if you never use the basement, and I'll show you both options on the estimate.
What should I do if my basement walls get damp before insulating?
Get the water handled before any insulation goes up. National guidance says that if basement walls are wet at times, or water drains off them onto the floor, an interior drain system should go in first, so it becomes the first line of the plan and the budget. The same guidance says to keep wood, paper and fiberglass batts from touching the concrete walls or floor.
Who can install insulation in California?
A contractor licensed by the California Contractors State License Board for insulation work. The board's C-2 insulation and acoustical class covers installing any insulating material for temperature or sound control, whether it goes on a basement wall or in an attic.
How much does basement insulation cost in Hemet?
Insulation around Riverside usually costs about $1 to $5 per square foot, and that's general insulation pricing for the area, not a basement figure or our price. Where a basement lands depends on walls or ceiling, the material, and whether water work has to come first. Your written estimate gives the figure for your own basement.
How do I insulate a basement wall without trapping moisture?
Leave plastic sheeting and foil off the room side of fiberglass on a below-grade wall, because national energy guidance says it can trap moisture inside the wall. For those walls, the same guidance points to kraft-faced fiberglass batts, or latex paint on the drywall, instead. We go over which approach fits your walls when I come out.
What is the best way to insulate an existing basement, inside or outside?
For most existing houses, from the inside. National guidance calls the usual outside methods costly, destructive and disruptive, since they mean digging along the foundation, so they take a bigger budget and more upheaval than most owners expect. If foam board goes on inside, the kind called XPS is flammable and has to be covered by a fire-slowing layer such as drywall.

Closed-cell foam insulation
If your basement walls are bare concrete that sometimes sweats, this dense foam seals air and holds up against moisture right where it's sprayed.
Open-cell foam insulation
For a dry basement ceiling or framed walls set off the concrete, this lighter foam fills in around pipes and wiring and usually costs less.
